Poem: Slingbacks
Posted On July 25, 2021
strappy polka dot stilettos
the better to walk all over with
no time for argument
hateful glares from old hags
—no matter the age—
in their ugly dirty sneakers
and clumsy orthopedic shoes
wistful glances from husbands
remembering when their wives
still wore heels
still cared to turn them on
before winning the battle
seizing the ring
and declaring victory
and punishing their vanquished men
with mom jeans
period panties
sensible shoes
short modern hairdos
sweat pants
belly fat
and nagging shrill voices
to the victor go the spoils
and the spoiled attitudes
