Poem: Old flame
Posted On January 18, 2021
To think I once loved you
—impossible!—
but I did
or the person I once was did
Another place
old poems in old notebooks
old songs I once sang
I cringe now, my face red with shame
But you never knew that word
—you still don’t—
but I did
and the person I am now does
Another universe
as you stay stuck
old bullshit you still say
I leave you to it now
Keep screaming
for your enemies to be punished
for imaginary crimes
Keep bragging
to your echo chamber
for your imagined virtues
A new fool will think she loves you
before she too
turns her back
and leaves you to your screams.
